Hoi An To Vinh Moc Tunnels Distance & Travel Time
The distance from Hoi An to reach Vinh Moc Tunnels is about 235km (146 miles) within 5 hours. The actual travel time may vary depending on traffic and how long you spend at each stops, so we recommend allowing extra time to enjoy the ride. Overall, this route passes through some of the most stunning scenery in Vietnam.
How To Get From Hoi An To Vinh Moc Tunnels?
Located within central Vietnam, both destinations can be reached by:
By Train: A budget-friendly option with lovely views along the way. However, the nearest station is in Dong Ha, about 40 minutes from the tunnels. You’ll still need a taxi at both ends, and departures are limited to a few fixed times a day.
By Bus/Shared Car: An affordable way to cover the distance. That said, you’ll follow someone else’s schedule and share every stop with other passengers, usually dropped off in town rather than right at the tunnel gate.
By Limousine: Enjoy door-to-door service with our private vehicle, and we give you full control over your stops and pace. The trade-off is worth the cost. It’s a higher price point than a shared ride, but for a site this remote, most travelers find the flexibility worth it.
HOI AN TO VINH MOC TUNNELS BY LIMOUSINE
Above all, we prioritize your personal schedule for this Hoi An to Vinh Moc Tunnels Limousine journey. Pick-up is arranged directly from your resort lobby, hotel, or private address in Hoi An. Our team coordinates with the driver in advance to ensure they arrive exactly when you need them.
Traveling in a private luxury car gives you the freedom to shape the trip around your own schedule. So, we recommend making the most of an early start to fully enjoy the stops below:
Hai Van Pass
Straddling the border between two cities Hue – Da Nang, Hai Van Pass offers cool mountain air and scenery that’s hard to resist. Hai Van Quan Gate still stands at the summit, and most visitors are pleasantly surprised by how much quieter it feels here than at the busier lookout point below.
Rather than passing through the tunnel below, our luxury car takes the mountain road over the pass itself, treating you to the fresh sea breeze of the East Sea and sweeping views that nature lovers won’t soon forget.
Horror Highway
Few places carry a name as haunting as this one. A quiet stretch of Route 1 that became the site of one of the deadliest days of the entire war. In 1972, during the Easter Offensive, thousands of civilians fleeing south were caught in the crossfire here, and the road never fully shook off its name afterward.
Today, the same stretch runs quietly past rice paddies and small roadside homes. It blends part of everyday rural Quang Tri life. Most travelers don’t stay long, but it’s worth slowing down for a moment here with such a brief, quiet pause before continuing north.
Long Hung Church
The next stop, Long Hung Church, built in 1955, remains almost entirely intact today. It’s a chance to pause and reflect on the brutality of the 81-day Battle of Quang Tri, with the church itself standing as a quiet memorial for all who visit.
Doc Mieu Firebase
It’s hard to imagine now, but this quiet roadside spot was once a key artillery position. It was a part of the American McNamara Line, a chain of defenses meant to seal off the old DMZ. Today, a somber Soviet-style memorial stands here, honoring the Vietnamese soldiers who lost their lives at this site.
There isn’t much left of the original base itself, just the memorial and the surrounding stillness of rural Quang Tri. It’s a brief but reflective stop, a quiet moment to take in a place that once played a pivotal role in the war before continuing north toward the Ben Hai River.
Hien Luong Bridge & Ben Hai River
Look closely and you’ll notice the bridge is painted two different colors: yellow and blue. It is a simple but powerful reminder that this was once the line dividing North and South Vietnam, one half maintained by each side.
Every year around April 30th, the site comes alive for Vietnam’s National Reunification Festival, complete with a flag-raising ceremony and a reenactment of families finally crossing the bridge together. Otherwise, visit any other time of year and you can still walk the bridge yourself and stand at the flagpole, taking in a place that carries real national significance.
Vinh Moc Tunnels
This is where the journey continues underground. Unlike the tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Moc Tunnels were never widened for tourism. It’s preserving much of their original scale for a far more authentic experience.
Inside, villagers once cleverly built family living quarters, kitchens fitted with a smart smoke-ventilation system, freshwater wells, a meeting hall, and even an underground clinic — where 17 babies were born.
Today, beyond its remarkable Vinh Moc Tunnels history, the village has simply gone back to what it always was. It’s now a quiet fishing and farming community on Quang Tri’s red basalt coast. Once you emerge from the tunnels, you can walk straight onto the very beach villagers once used to escape, a rare spot where past and present sit side by side.
After visiting the tunnels, our driver will take you back to your hotel in Hoi An, marking the end of your Hoi An to Vinh Moc Tunnels private limousine tour. Vietnam Limousine wishes you a memorable and meaningful journey through Vietnam’s historic DMZ.

Travel Tips
- Wear Comfortable Shoes: Since the tunnels are underground and require a fair amount of stooping, a sturdy pair of shoes will make moving around much easier. It’s also a little cooler underground than outside, so a light jacket is worth packing to avoid feeling too cool.
- Pack Light Items: When exploring Vinh Moc Tunnels, avoid carrying heavy bags or bulky items because the passages are narrow, often shared with other visiting groups, and some sections can be tricky to move through.
- Bring Cash For Entrance Tickets: Entrance fees are paid on-site and aren’t included in the transfer, so keeping some cash on hand is the perfect choice.Several other stops along the way also require tickets, and having cash ready makes it easy to grab snacks or drinks too.
- Start Early: Leaving Hoi An early gets you to Hai Van Pass ahead of the crowds, with clearer views and cooler air for photos plus more time to soak in the scenery and fresh outdoor air.
